well finally got her running today. sounds awesomeeeeeeeeeee

anyways troubled to find out though that no water was being pumped.

this isn't air cooled is it?

otherwise I'd have to assume it was the impeller no?

btw.. i have another post about this motor but i thought if i asked this in that post it would never be found. so im wondering why no water is coming out of the holes on the shaft. the propeller was underwater also pretty much up to that little point that sticks out over the propeller and has a hole in the end im pretty sure this is the induction point for the water.

but yeah it was under water.

anyone?

thanks

could be several reasons, motor has to be submerged 1/2 way up the leg. impeller shot, blockage in water system.

Re: 86 4 horse evinrude

thanks..

I guess thats the problem, The propeller and about 4 inches above it were all I had sitting in the water. I only ran it for a few seconds.

anyways.. where does it spit from then?

thanks.

It will either spit from the top underneath the cowl in the back or down on the lower unit somewhere. Usually there's an indicator at the top though.

Re: 86 4 horse evinrude

i dont right off hand but like earlier there should be an opening at the top of the leg near the cowl , or down further toward the water line. i would not fire her off again untill i found out the problem. a water pump impeller is a cheap and easy fix that is never done and said to be a wasted repair.
