I have a friend's boat at my house patiently awaiting me to get off of my butt and put the outdrive back on. It has a 5.7 King Cobra setup. Anyway, I am looking for the kit with the bellows and all that, and I keep finding kits for the Cobra, but nothing King Cobra specific. Is the bellows and all that the same between the two ? The Clymer book is of no help here. Thanx for any help...

Thanks guys. Rick, my friends boat is a Four Winns Liberator 211 as well, red/tan. Rob, I suspected as much, I just wanted to confirm...

There's not a lot of difference between the Drives on the small block engines and the ones for the big blocks other than the ratio.

The 5.0 and 5.7L models are 1.50:1 and 1.41:1 respectively.

The 7.5L model (The wonderful Ford 460) was 1.43:1 The upper and lower gear ratios were also slightly different.

There are people on here that can probably tell you other differences.

The transom install kit is universal. The gimbal bearings are the same......In fact the gimbal bearing in my Cobra install kit (GLM 21900) will also fit my Merc Bravo III!

Before I sold my coupler on EBAY I made a comparison with the Mercruiser. It appears that you could use a Bravo coupler on an OMC. You'd have to get the flywheel indexed and drilled for it on a milling machine but that would be easy. I'll bet it's already been tried.
Since the U-joints are the same maybe one could use a mercruiser splined yoke too.

The 460 coupler is no longer available.....Like the exhaust manifolds!
Real show stoppers I would say!

Cheers,

Rick
