86 90HP Johnson Throttle cable sticky

I recently replaced both throttle and shift cables on my 90 HP 1986 Johnson. Shifter is prefect, however the throttle is sticky, not smooth. It is adjusted correctly, I have good idle and open the carb when it is in full position, is just is very hard to throttle up or down. There do not appear to be any kinks in the cable, when the cable is disconnected the throttle mechanism is smooth, but when I reattach it is not, are there any adjustments I can make to correct this?

do you have a smooth loose bend going into the motor. sometimes that last bend get too sharp. try lubing the linkage on the motors. also there is a fiction knob on the most controls. loosen it.

Thanks for the fast reply!
I will recheck the cable that makes sense, where is the friction knob if I have one?

According to the rigging manual there should be a 2' loop in the cables before they enter the engines lower cowling. Also make sure there are no cable ties within a foot of the control box. the cables need to be able to move. Stiff cable are usually because they are tied up to tight to move or as TD says there are to short and do not have the loop before entering the cowling.

Thanks, I tried the 2' loop, took apart the contorl box, even disconnected and reattached at the engine nothing binding there, throttle is still still very stiff, guess I'll bite the bullet and call the mech. I'm sure it is something simple, but beats me if I can figure it out. I think I'll have them replace the remote control box, the boat is old but in great shape, maybe wear and tear over the years.
Thanks for your help, you guys have been great!

Problem fixed!
I tried one more time, after installing the cables in the remote control, I remounted the control box (which I did not do the first time). This allows any tension in the cables to twist out before attaching to the motor. I made sure the connections went on without twisting the fittings onto the linkage, adjusted the cables to loop about 2' before entering the motor and adjusted everything, works like new! (It is). The key is to relieve all tension from the cables before mounting to the motor by securing the control box first.
