Re: 86 chriscraft prop problems

Sounds like a slipped hub....
Aprop shop should be able to fix it for less than $100.00........;)

Re: 86 chriscraft prop problems

86 chric craft has a 350 inboard.

You'll have to Define this Much More Clearly for any of Us to help you......

A True Inboard,...??... Who's Transmission,..??....

Or is it an I/O, Sterndrive,..??.... If so, Who's,..??....

Either Way,..... Where the Motor connects to the Drive or Transmission there's Another Part that could Possibly give these Same Symptoms......

If it Isn't the Prop like Haut suggests,........This will be the Next Place to Look.........
I like Haut's Idea Better,.........
'cause the Prop is the Lesser of the 2 Evils.......

Re: 86 chriscraft prop problems

If it's a true inboard it won't be the prop. The prop does not have a hub, it's a bronze prop on a keyed tappered shaft. Odds are its not the coupler either as its a solid piece mounted with a spring damper. Most likely problem will be the transmission. Check the fluid level to make sure it's full. Also check shift cable to make sure the selector on the transmission is moving into the detent area.

Re: 86 chriscraft prop problems

You are going to have give us more information about your boat. For us to help you better. I have a 1982 Chris craft. With a 350 GM and a Paragon Transm. Your problem sound like transmition. I'll check the fluid first looking for a not milky color ( Water ) is bad. If the fluid is too dark I'll drain the fluid and them I'll put a full bottle of Lucas anti slip transmition additive. Them ad regular transmition fluid to the mark on the deep stick and try again. Let's us know if that help. I did it on my, works great.8)

Re: 86 chriscraft prop problems

A sterndrive is the big black thing on the back of the boat that the propeller attaches to.....
If you just have a prop on a shaft, then it is an inboard....
Can you post a pic or the serial #?.... it would help greatly with ID.......:)

The term sterndrive and I/O refere to the same thing

This is a typical I/O or sterndrive setup

Man, that would sure give me a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing I had some snake oil in my tranny as I headed off on a 2 week vacation into parts unknown.
