1986 Evinrude 9.9 short shaft engine, strong running motor...This morning I was running back to the docs when my engine quit. I was running 90% going pretty good and it just died. I restarted and took off again, not a few seconds later it quit again... Restarted and putted into the docs @ a slower RPM and made it fine. So when running @ higher rpm's it up and quits. I think it may be a fuel line or tank issue, not creating good suction from the tank??? Not sure any help on this one...

fishboy

Sounds like fuel, that is pretty typical when a filter gets filled with crud. Check for a filter and see if it is clogged up. Also the pick up in the tank, check the screen. Is the tank venting? Cracked fuel line sucking air. Lots of possibilites there.

Gary- thanks. Yeah, it is a new tank, the vent on the cap is vented, I opened it while I was running. the fuel line looks good but it is old. All connections look good? Where can I look for the screen???

Fish...You might try pumping the primer bulb at higher rpms to see if the motor continues to run. If it does, I'd look closely at the fuel pump, and the fuel hoses for vacume leaks.

Xscuuser! I will try that. My guess is it is somewhere between the tank and the fuel line...I may need a new fuel line, the one I am using is real old, but looks ok?
