When I lay down on the throttle wide open the enging "Bogs Down" and Hesitates. If I pull back slightly the engine will rev fine (4500-5000 RPM.) I need the extra kick for Water Skiing. This problem developed rapidly (one afternooon), and was not this way 2 mos ago. I rebuilt both Carbs, changed plugs, new fuel diaphram, checked fuel/Air mixture. Both Butterfly Valves open horizontal at full Throttle (engine off though) Compression on all cylinders OK. I'm starting to think Ignition? This engine has the black coils not the blue ones. There seems to be a little play in the linkage (Butterfly Valve) on the top Carb. Is this normal?
I hate to blindly throw money at my undiganosed problem. Please Help.

Ahoy, Peter, From the sound of it, you seem to have already thrown a lot of money at an undiagnosed problem. I agree that it is neither efficient nor cost-effective.

Your symptoms still sound like high end fuel starvation due to limited delivery. Start at the tank: Vented? clean uptake filter? unrestricted flow to the primer bulb? Bulb pumps one way only? unrestricted line to the fuel pump? Fuel pump check valves sealing? Each carb has a full bowl when you goose her?
All cylinders firing more or less equally? When she is bogging, pull one plug wire. Big drop in rpm? good cylinder. Little or no change? bad cylinder, Find out why and post preliminary results.

Hang in there. We will fix it without buying a lot of parts you don't need.

flat water and. . . no, Blue Water and flat sky . . . .or is it Blue Skies and Flat Water. Yeah, that's it.

JB
