I can’t get this thing to start. I have narrowed it down to something fuel related as the engine will fire rev and die if I shoot some pre mix in the carbs.

Bulb is firm and gas is in the bowls. I pulled the carbs and rebuilt them all passages were clean and clear installed new kits ie floats ect checked float height (Level with Bowl with upside down) I did not pull the throttle bodies since when I shot carb cleaner through the little hole I could see it spray in there past the butterfly.

It was running fine last Saturday I stopped at the beach for 3 hours and then it wouldn’t run.

What is going on here? Ideas?

Mac

If I have gas in the carbs and the fuel pump was bad, wouldn’t it at minimum fire a few times until the gas in the carbs was used up?

Mac

I did it this Saturday. I have only owned the boat for 2 weeks so I don't have any info other than they were very clean all passages clear. May have been done to get the boat running before the sale.

Mac

Between tank and pump it will suck air, after pump to the carbs it will leak fuel (vacuum/pressure).

Hummm, No fuel leaks after the pump and I bypassed all the other lines when I tried a remote tank. Last night I connected a tank line to the output hose of the fuel pump and pumped the bulb as a manual fuel pump. This bypassed the fuel pump vro ect and still nothing. (I have 50:1 in the tank for safety right now)

When I flipped the red switch on the primer it fired ran for a bit and stalled.

Ideas? I must be missing something simple here……

Runs on a squirt of pre-mix, gas in the carb bowls.

One weird observation: I have a clear inline filter under the hood, the gas in there was VERY green since this problem started. Last night after firing the motor with the red switch flipped the gas in the filter was much clearer than before. Is oil leaking backward toward the tank from the VRO? Could this take my motor out of commision?

Mac

Does anyone have any ideas or a “How to” for trouble shooting fuel systems? I have searched the site but I am still stumped.

I ordered a manual from Iboats last Thursday and it has not arrived yet. I’d like to get this boat running for the big weekend or at least so I can get it out of the water before the next hurricane.

Mac

After cranking, are carb bowls full? Use a remote tank mounted 2-3 ft higher than motor to see if pump is too weak. Are you sure hoses from pump output to carb manifolds are clear?

Gas is in the bowls,(Dumped all over me when I pullled em off),bulb is firm, I hooked up a remote tank up nice and high nothing. Squitr some pre-mix and she fires right up and then stalls out.

Pulled a fuel line off the top carb pumped the bulb and fuel shot out like a garden hose. The lines are clear and clean.

I am out of ideas :(

Mac

No change in operation after carb rebuild, carbs were very very clean when I tore em’ down. They may have been rebuilt for the sale.

One thing, I did not remove the throttle bodies (Butterflies) as the only passage for fuel was clear when I shot carb cleaner through it.

Mac

Yes, engine will run fine on a shot of pre-mix gas down the carbs.

Mac

Are you sure the red primer switch is in the run position? Is it possible the solenoid is stuck in the prime position?
