86 JOHNSON 40 buzzer

The motor has been running like a top.<br />Always flushed after every use with no <br />problems. Yesterday after a short little <br />trip the buzzer goes off. Now the motor <br />will only run about 3-5min before the <br />buzzer sounds and I shut off the motor.<br />It has a good steady water stream, however,<br />it may take a couple of seconds to discharge<br />when you first start the motor. Starts off<br />kinda weak then picks up really strong.<br /><br />It has not done anything like this before,<br />and has been running great after you guys<br />told me how to adjust the carbs.<br /><br />What could be my problem.

could be overheating<br />is oil tnk hooked up could be a bad sesor or bad buzzer

I premix my own fuel.<br /><br />Also, the water discharge isn't even <br />warm. However the head to the touch <br />is too hot to hold your hand on.

then its over heating <br />try removing thermostat<br />see what happens

Looking at my book I don't see anything about<br />the thermostat.

Scott...the t-stat is at the bottom of the head behind the head cover plate....that's the plate on the front of the head...got about 13 or 14 bolts holding it on. If the head is to hot to touch, then the engine is overheating. If the t-stat hasn't been changed out for a while, I would change it out along with a new impeller or water pump kit.<br /><br />Below is the BRP site. Click on engine diagrams and follow the prompts. When you get to your engine menu, click on "Cylinder and Crankcase". You will see the parts break down of the block and you can see where the t-stat is located. THANKS OBJ!<br />with many cars its possible to run them without a t-stat, is that also the case on outboards, if one lived in a warm climate. I'm in South Alabama.
