the trim tab on my dad's 1986 60 hp johnson motor will not go up and down. It is electic powered. Does anyone have a wiring diagram so we can find the wire causing the problem? Any help given would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet will be to buy a service manual for your motor so that you can troubleshoot the Trim & Tilt system... You may also find a copy of a service manual at your local library... Service manuals have all the wiring diagrams you'll need... ;)

If the electric Trim motor is not running, the first things I would check are the solenoids in the small black box (4"x5")on the top of the motor above the carburators in front of the flywheel... You will have to remove the cover on the box to get to the solenoids.... While you press the trim switch, listen for a clicking sound from the solenoids... If they "click" try lightly tapping them and see if the trim works... Also check for dirty connections...

Thanks for the help, will pass the info on to him. He has been having fun building a pontoon boat over. It works sometimes and not others. He thought it might me the wires in the box mounted in the boat as when it is damp it doesn't work. He got some kind of spray that is supposed to dry it and seal it but still no luck. So he thought maybe it was a wire. If he doesn't figure it out soon he said he would take it to the shop.

You can almost bet that it's a wire! Check all the wires going to the T & T, including the grounds. Maybe one of you could wiggle the wires while the other hits the switch.
