Not at all... What Don said is correct... He was just telling you one of the functions of the vent tube (that's what that orifice is called) and why it's like that (as opposed to a normal automotive carbie)... I have been making comment on the ramification of your piece of debris.... All the time you have spent debating the subject here you could have been out there and had the job done by now.... :D

Cheers,

Chris..........
I guess thats what I didnt connect. At first I saw it as the fuel going only one way- EITHER to the jets from the bowl Or ... JUST as an overflow. I get the pic now:rolleyes::):D

To Don and Chris, I wish you would stop misleading people, the rochester 2 bbl automotive carb is not externaly vented, it is identical to the one in the picture, I should know I have rebuilt 100s of them. The only automotive 2bbl carbs with an external vent were used on 283 motors in the 60s and even they were rare.

Not misleading Dan. Most automotive carbs float chambers ARE vented to the outside of the carb... It wasn't until the advent of 'pollution controls' that the automotive world changed to the same method as a marine carb.... The point being that people CAN NOT use automotive carbs on a marine application....

Well chris I suppose you are entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong. I have been a ticketed auto mechanic for 40 years and I have done a lot of carbs in those years, stock, high performance ,and marine. I know what I am talking about. Telling people that all automotive carbs are externaly vented is pure BS, some are but not all by any means.
