I have an '86 Four Winns Freedom 160 with a Mercruiser 140/Aplha One. I just got my boat back from the shop today after having the bellows, gimbal bearing, and u-joint replaced. Took her out to test run and ran fine at first. Then i noticed that there was some water leaking from the engines cooling system around the manifolds into the bilge, then she slowly overheated after cruising at about 3000RPM for a little while. Dash read about 200 deg. Limped back to dock and took her home. I also noticed a milky brown liquid coming from my flame arrestor, could this be water in my engine oil? Put on the muffs and noticed she wasn't throwing very much water but she didn't seem to overheat at idle. Could there be a clog in my system, bad thermostat, impeller, or what. Any ideas? Please Help none of this can be good!

Oil/water mix around your flame arrester would indicate (to me) the possibility of a crack or bad gasket leaking in to the oil and causing it to be over full and venting through the vent tubes on the valve covers. Check your oil level.

Compression check might be in order too.

You may have some blow by.
