I have an 86 Stingray with a 140 Mercruiser. The boat has been sitting a couple of years and we are trying to get it running again. I have read the manual and the posts here on the forums and tried what was suggested. We have voltage at the coil where we should what it should be, and when it should be there. The points appear to be fine. However, we are getting no spark from the coil. I have replaced the coil, thinking it was the problem and still have the same issue. I am starting to pull what hair I have left out. Does anyone have any other suggestions.

@bond-o- The points are opening and closing. We can watch the voltage on the coil go from 12.x to roughly 0, (0.xx), as we rotate the engine. Other than that I have not tested them. Tomorrow I will have a dwell tach and some other items here with me to dive into a little deeper.

Have you checked the coil wire? If it's bad, nothing gets OUT of the coil.

Rotate the engine until the points are closed, then, with key on, open the points with your finger. There should be a tiny arc at the points (won't see it in sunlight) and a spark from the coil lead to ground, if the gap is ?" or less. If not, undo the condenser wire and try again.
