86' Mercury 150 Tilt Lock Question

I put an '86 Merc 150 XR2 on my boat and it has a lever that you manually flip up on the transom bracket to give added support for when the motor is tilted up for trailering. My question is this, how do you use it? Do you tilt all the way up, have someone hold the lever and then bump the trim down so it rests on the lever???

Yup thats how you use it.. I only use it when im working on my jet foot not for travel.

It doesnt seem that it would be strong enough for trailering.. Id get a transom savor if thats your intention..
