The flapper is in the exhaust pipe just after the motor. You need to raise the motor, or remove the cast iron exhaust elbow to change the flapper. With the latter, you'd just need a new flapper and elbow gasket. Fairly easy if the bolts don't snap on you. I doubt your 4-banger has an oil cooler. If it has power steering (not common on those) it will...for the power steering fluid. As far as collecting any impeller fragments, drain the block and exhaust manifold of water. Also pull the thermostat. Fragments like to collect in these places.
