I always add stabilizer when I fill the tank and always put the boat away with a full tank - like I dis last October. Didn't winterize the boat because the climate here in NC is typically mild during the winter and I often go fishing during the winter months. But things change and for reasons that don't matter now I have not ben able to use my boat till now. Rebuilt carbs during recoup from surgery last sprng and it ran fine the few times I used the boat last fall. Now I can't get it started.
Looking for tips that might help me get started before I remove the air box and start the analytical process seriously. I know starting fluid is not wise.

Rickclark, I am by no means an expert, really just learning my 89 175, but the couple of time i started it, i used a small tank with fresh gas in it, i made sure that the primer bulb pumped the filter on the engine full and heard it gonto the carbs. Advanced the throttle a little ( in neutral, of course ) hit the choke button for a few seconds while.i turned the key.

If that fails, make sure you get spark to the plugs ( use a spark gap tester ) and also check compression.

Instead of starting fluid, use a spray bottle with some gas / oil in it.

I am sure others will join in.

Thanks for thhe input guys, and yes the tether is in place. (I've owned this motor for 30 years, but I know one can forget.) In case this would be useful for others, I have found that my use of ethanol blended fuel may be causing my problem. Also found that my use of "regular" Stabil (as opposed to the red stuff) may be compounding the problem by adding more ethanol to the system. I had been inattentive to the value of using pure ethanol free fuel in my motor. Have drained the tank. 'Refilled with non-blended 90 octane and hope to get started this weekend. If successful, I'll do a shock treatment with Ring Free in an attempt to avoid rebuilding the carbs.
