I guess we need to understand what you mean by running rich. Is the only symptom the fact that the plugs look wet at idle? Or does the motor in fact load up and choke itself out?

Hi Dhadley,<br />Motor will blubber ocasionaly on muffs but will only stall out when prop is in the water,or like i stated maybe its the 15mi.trip with the motor full up. it started blubbering bad after having motor full up to do a water pump change.I could have sworn the re-circ fittings on the block were clear be for I decarbed but now they seem blocked.the check valves seem to be functioning normally,I can suck air through but cannot blow through them. Thanks a lot for response.

kgw<br /><br />You have solicited advice and rebuffed the responses. You have a carb that is not clean. There is no substitute to taking it apart and soaking (submerge) it in carb cleaner. Isolate the cylinder by pulling the plug wires until it stops sneezing and then clean that carb. These motors are simple and I would be shocked if your problem is anything but a low speed jet problem. I have a 1987 200 Johnson and I have a friend who has a 1989 150 and has had the same problem. Make sure you have an inline fuel filter on your line and find that carb. The reason it runs well on the hose and not at the ramp is because that cylinder is not working correctly along with the back pressure from being in the water. Good luck.

I maybe off base here, but have you checked the needles and seats to see if they are leaking? How about the float level? These would cause the carb to overflow and flood the motor. Just a thought.

have you made sure the recirc valves are working properly?<br />i think you have to be very careful about soaking those carbs.<br />-<br />quote from manual--<br /> Do not clean carburetor or its components by submerging in strong carburetor cleaner or hot soak tank. sorry but im not rebuffing any resonses aii are appreciated.Ive working on all types of carbs for 50 yrs and yes i did re build them with new kits rechecked float levels reflushed all passages with carb cleaner followed all torque specs re installing them. pulled plug wires one at a time motor responded as it should . so I have to look for something else. as was suggested by seahorse im now re-looking at re-circ system but the weather is not co-operating Thanks again

hi all,<br />Problem solved. It seems that the linkage to the timer plate was very sloppy,1 bushing missing the other worn badly.probably would allow timer base to be to far retarded.The other fix I did was to clean the check valve in the crankcase drain system,it was blocked.{Seahorse turned me on to this drain system} There is nothing in the OMC manual that would lead you to this check valve,so special thanks to him. Also would like to thank all that helped,Dhadley,hooty,omc guru,joe. sorry if I left any one out.<br />THanks again<br />PS dont know which one fixed prob as I did both before running motor

Stevecops,<br /> Check valve is just under the vro and a little behind.it has a hose going to the upper bearing housing bottom hose goes to lower bearing housing and a third {mutch smaller hose}from the T to the lower re-cerc check valve{starboard side} the check valve has a arrow on it pointing up.<br /> I guess it prevents puddling of excess oil and fuel in the lower crankcase.<br /> good luck.
