Re: 86 Suzuki 65hp

There really isn't any way to "properly" disconnect the O/|I, as you would an OMC VRO. The oil pump needs lube to prevent locking up, and the proper oil/gas mix is pretty important to get the full value of the engine. One of the electrical connections above the O/I pump is the throttle switch. I remember your saying you'd done something with that. Now knowing you've spliced a bunch of wires, I hesitate to guess where the problem might be. The color codes are the same between the 55/65, but maybe they weren't properly spliced?

Everything was spliced with Suzuki Connectors and the wiring is not the same meaning you have more wires then you need from a control pan to a tiller pan. it ran fine for about a year. I am going to say it is the power pack or CDI.

Re: 86 Suzuki 65hp

I had an early 80's suzuki that had some deteriorating foam that lined the engine cover.

I could clean out the float bowls and jets only to have the issue re-appear sooner or later. Usually sooner.

Many times something as simple as a run home and back to the water, or even stopping and fiddling with anything, might dis-lodge the debris from the main jet and it would be all well momentarily, only to rear it's ugly head again.

These bits of foam would easily find their way in through the carb bowl vents located at the top of the carbs.

After removing foam all together and washing down powerhead and hood. Along with a bowl and jet flush, it was all good.

Remove cover and wipe your fingers on motor. Any somewhat gritty feeling debris all over, or anything oily will indicate this.

Do a good washdown with degreaser or strong soap to remove the leftover bits of foam.

Try not to get the cdi box too wet.

Pull carbs again and clean bowls and blow out jets.
