The motor idles not so well and can not get up on plane. Compression is 95 and 100 psi on the two cylinders. Carbs and fuel pump have been rebuilt. There is spark on both cylinders but the #2 cylinder seems to have weak/intermitent spark. I figure the same set of stator coils power up both cylinders so I am leanind towards the CDI unit. What do you guys think?

I mine as well add the stator, trigger and coils passed the resistence tests per the manual. I don't have a DVA adapter so I didn't get those types of measures from the stator and trigger. However I doubt the stator (on a 2 cylinder engine) would produce strong spark on the top cylinder and not the bottom.

Your compression is a bit low but not too bad ..... I doubt it is your CDi unit, have you replaced the spark plug wires? as they can corrode in time giving a bad spark, like you said ... "I doubt the stator (on a 2 cylinder engine) would produce strong spark on the top cylinder and not the bottom." ......

The spark plug wires can be replaced separately? This is my friends motor and I only took a quick look at it but it seemed as if the cdi/coil/spark plug wires are all one unit, guess not.

Thanks-
andy
