Help my baby is not well. :(

Motor has been running fine up until today. Today I went to take her out and although it fire up just fine, it will not hold idle.

I have to rev it up over 1000rpm to keep it running.
As soon as I drop the rpm's it stalls.

Also once I put it in gear, it bogs down and can barely make 6 kts at wot - rpm's make it to just over 2k.

Thought it might be filters, so I replaced both the inline one in on the motor & the water seperator. Still no dice.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in adnavce.
John

B20 is giving you good advice...

Such a dramatic change in performance is usually an indication of an ignition problem...

Check the spark on all cylinders with a spark gap tester or timing light....

Let us know...

Check all your fuel lines and especially primer bulb for cracks. They should all be soft and pliable. When is the last time you rebuilt your fuel pump?

Re: 87 150 Black Max

Thanks for the replys.

I was fortunate to find a mech to look at it today.

Did compression test - ok
checked stator - ok
fuel lines are fine - although it probably would not hurt to replace them, and redor the fuel pump for next season.

Motor was only running on 3 clynders.

B20, you were right on. Turned out to be the power packs.

Had them replaced and will be back out tomorrow.
Ouch on the cost of those buggers! But she is running.

Keep your fingers crossed.
John
