87 4 cyl Camry starter rebuild kit?

I searched and found the how to article, but cant find out WHERE to buy kit.
Could someone please let me know?

Ayuh,... I haven't seen a Rebuild Kit for Any starter in Years...

With the price of Recon. starters what they are,...
Diy rebuilding isn't worth the Effort....

Older Japanese cars were notorious for using MANY different starters, some as many as two or three COMPLETELY different starters for the same engine in one year. The same engine in another model had a different starter.
Hence, kits are mostly un-available.

Local starter/alternator re-builders don't 'rebuild' Japanese, they sell re-mans instead.

Kits are still available for USA cars/trucks, but not many people rebuild their own.

Car only has 127K on it, I just want to replace brushes etc

Any good electric motor shop, should be able to get you the brushes...but you might find that a re-man with a warranty is really not that much more..

At one time I tried to get the brushes for my wife's old 87 subaru and found the brushes were $22 and I was able to get a re-man starter for $29 so I went with the re-man

From my search on this...... No parts found for 87 4 cyl Camry starter rebuild kit.

Just buy a rebuilt one.

Almost guaranteed that you will only need the contacts and possibly the plunger for the repair. your Yota dealer should have no problem getting the contacts and pluger for cheap. Pull the cover off, clean out the buildup and examine the contacts.

Yep... Your going to need part numbers 28226-74070 & 28226-64370 from your Toyota dealer. You need to verify that these fit your model (they fit the majority of the ND starters), your dealer should be able to tell you. Both are about $20.

Yup I have repaired 100,s of Toyota starters and all that fails is the solenoid contacts. One side will be worn down from the current and the other side will look like new. What happens is the plunger in the starter solenoid when pulled in cant make connection due to this uneven wear on the contacts. Changing the contacts is an easy job. Now getting the starter in and out may be a different story depending on the model you have.
