I have a 1987 force 50 horse on a 17' blue fin that i was wondering if you guys could help me out with. First off its got something wrong with the gear case. It leaks bottom end oil like crazy from what looks like the cooling water intake and in turn milks up the remaining fluid in the case. When i got it the guy said he has just changed the gear oil and took the liberty of spilling oil all over the low end and not cleaning it off to disguise the leak. It also drinks gas like crazy (which after reading other posts on here is a normal for the forces) but smokes pretty bad. Its kinda disgusting that it will use the same amount of fuel going 20mph that our 460 OMC will going 40 on a 22' boat. I was going to just rejet the carb and see if that helps the smoke but it has always run fine so i don't know. And finally, after my last trip out on the water started running sluggishly, not getting up on plane, and missing. It was running perfect pulling my friends and I wakeboarding for about an hour then out of no where i go to pull out and it just starts missing horribly and bogging. It has always seemed to me to be running a little hot (exhaust water feels way hot for an engine its size) so i thought it may have just got overheated but after letting it sit for about an hour still no luck. We rarely use it to tow wakeboards because we have a much bigger boat for that but its fun to experiment with the small wake. If anyone has any idea whats up with any of its problems i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Not a Force expert but it appears you have leaky seals in the gearcase.
(milky lube) You have drive shaft, propeller shaft and shift shaft seals.
Replace them all.Have you smelled the leaky stuff?Does it have that distinct Gearlube smell or just smell gassy?
It will use gas at about 5 GPH at WOT.But be sure the choke is opening all the way and that the float valve is controlling the gas into the carb.
Your primer bulb should get firm and not allow further squeezing.
If the bulb is easy to squeeze after firm gas will come out of the carb.
If the diaphram is bad in the fuel pump it could be smokey. In fact it may have fouled a plug causing your sluggish performance.

Ok thanks for the reply. Yea i figured it was just a seal but the fact its leaking from the water intake left me wondering. And yes its definately gear lube, no doubt. Yes the choke is all the way open but the primer bulb is not hard and can be easily squeezed. Does that mean i need to readjust the floats? No its not a fouled pulg, i checked them and the fuel filter but i'll keep checking everything. Thanks
