87 75 merc is this the right stator does anyone have OEM #???

Hello I have a 87 75 horse merc. on a 16ft Hydra-Sports Bass Boat I just left the ramp this morning got up on plane and drove about 2 miles then all the sudden it felt/sounded like I just let off the throttle but I didnt it was all the way down we fished till noon or so but every time we would go to move we had to get on the front to get on plane once we got on plane we stayed up just no real speed at all any ideas??? I just wanted to add that it starts idles and runs good at low speeds just dont go any faster

someone just told me it could be a head gasket if so what is the best way to check to see if it is and if it is wouldnt it be missing real bad and trying to die?

I have a 73 85 horse merc that just did the same thing. Took it to the shop and found out I had a small crack in the plug They replaced it and it runs good now you may want to check yours

I am crossing my fingers it is a plug I pulled them tonight no water in the cylynders possibly a metal shaving in the top cylynder my flashlight is no good couldnt see that good but I sure hope your right mikejallen I am going to test the compression tonight or tomorrow

I tested my compression it was 130 in #1 140 #2 140 #3 and in an effort to test #4 i took of this cover in the pic and found this piece and this not inside in the next pic does anyone know where it goes and could this be the cause of my problem????? and do the compressions seem OK ?

Check your throttle linkage, it kinda looks like the piece that holds the
throttle cable on. Check your carbs to make sure a welch plug didn;t pop out
Your motor doesn't have a head gasket. The head is integrated with block.

after further inspection of my plugs it seems there is a piece of metal(aluminum??) on the end of my #1 plug touching the electrode could this have been my problem all along?

thanks for all your help guys I went and had my stator tested today and the high side is out of it so thanks again for all your help now I know whats wrong now I just have to fix it lol

I have been looking online for stators because locally they are about 225 -250 I have found them on here for around 150 but I want to make sure I get the right one does anyone know the OEM #? I have found a CDI 174-5454k1 but want to make sure it is the right one by matching the OEM number too again my motor is 1987 4cyl. 75 HP merc A116924

Merc part number for the stator is 398-5454A26.

is CDI or Seirra bad?? anyone of them better than the other ?
