Still working away slow but steady.Anyone have a clue as to how the bilge vent hoses are to be run.How far down into engine compartment ect.No new pics still doing odds and ends.Pulled outdrive for a gimbal and bellows job. Run new shift cable and test shifts great runs good then I turned wheel and boat just shook.Going to buy alignment bar and gimbal kit off of e bay and slap an impeller kit in in for good measure.

Re: 87 bayliner project

(c) Each exhaust blower system required by paragraph (a)(2) of this
section must exhaust air from the boat at a rate which meets the
requirements of Table 183.610, Column 3 when the engine is not
operating.
(d) Each intake duct for an exhaust blower must be in the lower one-
third of the compartment and above the normal level of accumulated bilge
water.
(e) More than one exhaust blower may be used in combination to meet
the requirements of this section.
(f) Each boat that is required to have an exhaust blower must have a
label that:
(1) Is located as close as practicable to each ignition switch;
(2) Is in plain view of the operator; and
(3) Has at least the following information:

WARNING--GASOLINE VAPORS CAN EXPLODE. BEFORE STARTING ENGINE OPERATE
BLOWER FOR 4 MINUTES AND CHECK ENGINE COMPARTMENT BILGE FOR GASOLINE
VAPORS.

I got this info So I asume I route the intake or nonblower hose 1/3 the way up from the bottom of the boat and the exaust at the top ?

Gimbal so easy a cave man can do it.Worst part is feed line from water pump. Made sure to align port on gimbal with hole in bracket to make lubeing easier. Puller was rednecked by welding a chain to old one in the center and jerking the thing out.Drove in with a 2 1/2 inch pcv pipe plugged on end.Wish I had ordered the alignment tool. Now If it was that easy to fix date on my camera.

The exacty opposite, actually. You don't even have to bother with an intake hose, as long as it vents into the bilge area (positive pressure). The exhaust hose is the important one, as fuel vapor sits on the bottom on the bilge, so you must suck it out from that area (the lower the better).

Keep on trucking! I hear you about the project dragging on, as I am constantly delayed by something or other. Sometime the delay is income, so not too bummed ;). Sorry to hear about the leaking. My transom mount gasket was toast as well (the PO ran it so long with a bad gasket the transom became mush). I hope your transom isn't as bad. If it is, the engine isn't tough to remove and the transom mount just unbolts and falls right off. Just depends how long you want to keep the boat..

Re: 87 bayliner project

count me as a fan of older Bayliner cuddy's...what's the top speed with the 5.0L? I haven't really piloted another boat but my 3.0L is pretty respectable

Re: 87 bayliner project

Dont know how fast she'll be but I will race anything that will push me.Its the only way to win.I have driven this engine in chevy truck runs good compression good, oil pressure. But swapped fuel injection for marine 4 barrel
It it runs 40 to 45 Id be tickled. It only has a 19p for a prop.Should pull 2 tubes and thats main reason I bought it.And to see if It will pull my big old hide side up on some skis.Im going to fill the bilge with a water hose and look for leaks this time.I recommend this step to anyone who just built the boat.Might save some problems later.I think I might need to change the date on my camera.

Hey proshadetree, I just got done reading your thread and I have to say that is a nice looking boat. Great job on that transom, You should not have any problems with it. Man these 1980,s Bayliners are coming out of the woodwork's.
I hope I can get my 1988 cobra on the water soon. If I could just figure out how to get a 5.0 to fit on my outboards lower unit, just kidding:D

Carpet in,seats in,side panels back on.Will probably redo interior this winter.I have compounded, wet sanded, polished, waxed and buffed till I hurt. But now if I get into a fight I can block good, wax on wax off.Sorry old karate kid line that just keep going through my head.I have hooked the trim lines twice in this boat and have gotten them backwards twice.I hope there is not a third time, charm or not.Daughter has camera.I think I found her a new Christmas gift. When I get it back Ill up some pics.Saterday seems like a good time to back her in and see what happens.
