hello all, ive noticed my engine starts fine and runs great past 2000 rpm, very smooth. I remember reading somewhere these engines dont like to run smooth between 1000 and 2000. Its like im on 2 cylinders untill i give it a little throttle past 2000 and back it down. This hopefully isnt the case, maybe a carb clean? Like i said before, its very smooth and powerfull after about 2000 rpms. thanks.

I have exact same issue, I just rebuilt mine, but shame on me didn't rebuild the carbs right away, going to do that next weekend and see. Mine idles fine in neutral, but when I advance into gear, it seems to stumble, like it's almost flooding out until 2000 to 2500, then it smooths up and takes off. seems to be dumping too much fuel in.

Seems to be the nature of the beast! I have a Chrysler 140 does the same thing runs fine at wot and hole shot is great. Just stumbles a little when I advance the throttle slowly. I just live with it.

That's about what TMD told me, big motors just don't like goin slow :)

well, something is obviosly wrong. Its really annoying because it sounds really unhealthy for the motor. I doubt it comes like that. Lets find a fix!! Im also going to inspect the carbs.

Re: 87 force 125 mid range smoothness.

I have had the same problem with my 1999 40 since I bought it 8 months ago. I have tried everything and have suspected a carb problem all along. My spark is nice and hot. I use spark plug NGK B9HS-10 gapped down to 35. I do alot of trolling and this has worked best so far.
Yesterday I tried all the trouble shooting procedures in the book again. In the CDM resistance test I found one to be out of spec. I replaced that CDM. I also took apart the carb and checked it again and reset the float. I have already had it apart 50 times. I also replaced the recirculation lines. It ran the best it has so far. If it will keep running like it did yesterday, I will be happy. Maybe you will find a useful nugget out of what I did.
