87 Force 50 air cleaner?

Hi again,
My 1987 Force 50hp (model 507X7B) has no air cleaner on the carb and none shown on any of the drawings I have seen... is this common? Would I affect performance if I were to fabricate some sort of air cleaner?

You don't need an air cleaner on the water.There is no dirt out there.
Anything you put in front of it would restrict the air flow.J

the air cleaner is considered as the foam padding found in the cover!

HI Steve, I have a 50hp force, it's never had anything on the carb and all others I've seen didn't have one either,I don't know if they ever did.I have had mine for years with no trouble I wouldn't worry about it
