My wifes father has a 87 bayliner with a force 85 hp outboard. He bought the boat 2 years ago and just let it sit. It ran when he bought it and now I can't get it to start. I pulled out all the old gas and start with all new. Replaced the carbs and checked for spark. I can't even get this thing to fire on carb clean. Any help on what you think i should look at would be helpful!

Thanks
Tony

Don't use carb cleaner or starting fluid in a 2 stroke motor, use premixed gas.

Check the kill switch.
Check for spark.
Check compression.

Advance throttle only, to full.
Squeeze primer bulb.
Actuate the choke.
Turn the key.

Roscoe's right - carb cleaner and starting fluid is bad for two strokes.

I've always found that a little bit of WD40 will help get some compression back (not to much though), If you have a seringe or some method of spraying it, use a premix of 25:1 (twice as much oil)

if you have spark it sounds like you might have a compression issue.

Good luck,
