I have no glass experience at all but man that looks top notch! and would not be affraid to pay you to do mine if I needed too great job. One ? have you considered having some sort of drain from the forward compartments?

Thanks FF for the kind words!

All the drains will go in after the glass is done and before the sole decks are in place. One will run ski locker and one out of the fuel tank area. I think some weep holes at the stringers too. 1"pvc pipe and 3M 5200 should do nicely.

Thanks PG!
It's the damn csm that is hard to work with...Ya just have to wet it up good and not fool with it too much. We found dabbing the resin on with a chip brush worked best, just can't brush it too hard.

Great job.
You guys look like pro's.

Your 100% correct.
I find myself trying to make it perfect and messing with it to much and the more I mess with it the worst it gets.
Didn't use a chip brush,I'll have to try that.
Did you smooth the glass out with your hands when you layed it on the wet resin? Found that that worked out prety good.

produceguy, thanks for the kind words. Like Rick said, the csm is a pain to work with but the 1708 was great. We used a small roller to lay the resin on the stringer. Yes, we did use our hands (gloves of course) to smooth out the 1708. Tried that with the csm, not so good, dabbing with the chip brush worked well. For me, never having glassed, I am pleased with the results.

Really nice looking work, thanks for the pics! I found that the best way to wet out CMS is to put resin on the back side, then lay it on whatever you are bonding it too. Then it only takes a bit of resin to finish up wetting out the top. I did that with 2oz and had pretty good luck.

JMHO

Hark'n back to the fuel tank install in this thread - I have done this once before and it worked well. Before placing the tank in position, I cut 1" wall insulation foam into 6" wide strips and using a small amount of 3M 4200/5200 or even some left over PB and stick them in place under the tank. Then I wrap the tank with thin plastic before placing it into position. This will make it much easier to remove the tank if ever need be. I install plywood pieces across the tank to keep it in place while I pour foam around the sides in quantities that assure me there are no voids underneath the tank. (this is just a guessing game on how much to use. I usually mix 2 16oz plastic cups to start.) Temp is very important when pouring foam. 70? - 80? works well for max expansion.

Ya know some people can lay glass and some can't, YOU sir are obviously among those who CAN. WOW. Waht a NICE, CLEAN job. 1708 IS a pleasure to work with. IF you do have any issue with it laying down I have use the Giant Stick pins to help MOLD it into shape. Just use a little vaseline on the pins to keep em from stickin to the resin and they'll pull right out.

GREAT JOB!!!!

Hello Rick,
That is very nice work. I am so stoked to get my four winns done. It looks like you bedded your stringers and bulkhead in PB? Four winns put them in floating but I like your way better. Don't know which way to go?? The reason my stuff rotted is because of the gap that was bellow the stringers and motormount. Even it was floating then glassed in. If I bed them it will make it easier to install everything. How many layers of tabbing did you use? Thanks Stefan

Stefan We used 1 layer of 1.5oz csm then 2 layers of 1708 will go over that.

I have been following your post Rick, good job. I was wondering about your method of attaching stringers . Did you PB under the stringer as well? Just wondering cause reading through the forums some suggest to rebuild too original?
Anyway keep on truckin!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Hey nemo! Yes we did bed the stringers in a PB mixture... I had a few gallons of Nida Bond pourable transom compound left over from the engine mount pour....I added some cabisil and 1/4" milled fibers to make the PB. We set the stringers in place then on the inside of the stringers( in the fuel tank area and ski locker) layed some csm tape to tab to the hull. Once that set up we put the PB in a gallon ziploc bag cut the tip and used it like an iceing bag to pump the PB under the stringers. We then used a plastic spoon to press the PB under the stringers and fillet the sides. Then we capped the PB with csm.

Can't wait till Saturday to get more done!!

Can't get over how good your glass work is.
Are all your stringers and bulkheads in?
Can't wait to see some more work from you guys.

What do you have planned for the deck? Carpet or paint? I seen a guy post that he might use pool paint. :D
