87 johnson 90 hp wont idle in the water, Dhadley take a look please

Hey all, <br /> tested the boat out yesterday and it wouldnt ide in the water. <br /> It idled fine with the ear muffs on at the house but not in the water I took it for a quick ride and it ran fine above 1400 rpms but as soon as I went below that it stalled. <br /> <br />Pulled it out of the water and took it back to the house and put the ear muffs on it and it idled <br />Please help if any of you have some ideas.

There’s back pressure on the exhaust when the motors in the water that will lower the RPM's. I usually set the idle a little higher on the (lake on a hose). Most of the time I will reset the idle after it in the water at the lake. I know this isn’t a technical description, but it’s the way I set my idle.

I'd start with a good carb bath and new kits. Sounds like it may have been sitting a while. Start with fresh fuel also.

In the driveway the idle will be a few hundred rpm's higher than in the water. Every motor is different so I can't say exactly how much higher.
