I recently purchased a 1987 Mariner outboard 3 cylinder oil injected. I got it running in a garbage can and it shifts very hard. The boat has been sitting for a couple of years. Do you think if I run it awhile will this loosen up? I also can't find an exploded view of this particular gear case. I have a spare that is supposedly no good but I'd like to take it apart and see if I can find out what's wrong with it, will I need any special tools, I have mechanical experience and many tools now. Thanks for any input on this.
