Just did some examining of the engine today, the casting on it is 14093638. It also has a brand new edlebrook performer intake manifold on it. I wonder if its usable

14093638...350 cu.in....87-95...2 or 4 bolt main...Roller or flat tappet cam, one-piece rear seal

If that edlelbrock does not have brass lined water ports I would toss it.

you arnt done yet?? boating season is here.. slap that motor in there.

wish it were that easy, I have to find a weekend to do it. Its not easy to lift an engine out of a boat sitting on a trailer and the highest point at the stern is 7 feet from the ground

Today some progress finally, Manage to make it to my friends shop who had a forklift that went high enough to get the old motor out. First I have to pull the cobra drive off. Got scared, found rust all over the u joints and water all inside the u joint bellow. everything still rotates fine there. Not sure what to make of it. Are the u joints serviceable? I saw zerk fittings on them if thats what they are called. I'm now starting on cleaning up my bilge, Its amazing what you find in there with the engine out. I found everything from a toothbrush to dollar bills to bottle caps. Main question is the u-joints, repairable? I'm positive the water was getting in from the transom seal. There is no other way it could get in. How do i make sure thats sealed correctly when i put it back together. last thing, the gimbal bearing was all noisy when i spun it. I plan on replacing it. Since i have the motor out can i knock it out from the inside so I wont need the special puller tool?

If it a saltwater boat the manifold is likely bad which lets sea water into the cylinder. On saltwater boats that do not get flushed with fresh water after every trip the manifold only good for about 3 years. As soon at the manifolds fails water gets into the exhaust passage and runs to the lowest cylinder. Either number 7 or on the other side number 8.

A small leak turns to steam but bigger leaks fill the cylinder with water and blow the pistion or bend rods.

Yes That seams to be what the cause was. Drained the oil out of the old motor after pulling it out. No water in there. I have a fresh set of new GLM manifolds and risers along with a closed cooling system to be installed, I am stalled by my drive now

Manifolds on saltwater boats that do not get flushed after every trip only last about 3 years. When the manifold fails the water from the manifold gets into the exhaust passage. The water then runs down hill to the lowest cylinder, either number 7 or on the other side number 8. A small amount of water just turns to steam but as it gets worse it fill the cylinder with water and blows the pistion or bend rods or both.

I have always flushed after every trip for atleast 30 minutes on the ear muffs
