87 OMC Cobra and closed cooling system.

With a new 4.3 Vortec motor married to a Cobra outdrive. Can I have a full enclosed cooling system, or do I need to go with a half system instead? I've read the outdrive, pumps a good volume of water. Is it enough to cool the whole system, or just the block. Would a through hull intake connected to an engine driven water pump be needed? There is nothing on the internet anywhere on this subject. So I thought I would ask the experts. Thanks guys! Joe

I bought mine from a company called Ocean East. Google is your friend!

My Bravo raw water pump impeller is approx the same size as the raw water impeller my former Cobra drive had.

I have a full system and it cools my 454 and manifolds just great in 85 degree water.

Thanks for the info. I googled the he!! out of it lol. I just didn't call any companies. :facepalm: I'm guessing I can with a brand new engine. That's good to know about the Bravo/Cobra impeller size similarities. I'll be doing some calling in the morning. Motor is being ordered tomorrow! Thanks for the info! Joe

It'll work with the 3.0 or 4.3, but would be questionable with a 5.7 without an extra port out the transom. If I'm going to drop almost 8,000.00 on a new motor, I want that sucker fully protected!!!
