I fired the engine up last night and the outdrive will not work. No motor sound nothing. Any clues how to troubleshoot?

wannabe

Re: 87 Sea Ray, OMC outdrive no worky

I am fairly new to the outdrive world, I have a 76 OMC with electric shift giving me problems. Anyhow, the first thing I would check is the shift linkage and stuff related to that. With manual shift linkage I believe you should be able to put it in gear at the throttle, ENGINE OFF!!! and your prop should not turn. Also make sure all of your oil levels are good. I would recommend a book for that drive, they are around $35 and worth every penny. Good Luck...

Maybe I should have been more specific. It shift's fine and the prop turns, I just can't get it to go up or down. I don't hear the motor for the hydraulics start.

wannabe

sounds like you need a hydralic pump. check the fuse and all conections to the pump, you can check the pump by hooking a batery straight to the pump. if no worky then pump is probably bad, welcome to the world of boating $$$$$

Found the problem last night. I worked on the back of the boat last fall tightening all the loose hardware and I had to take some of it out. In so doing I knocked a connector loose.

wannabe

Been boating on and off for 40 years, but new to this site. Thanks
