Thats why i asked him if it were a 6 cylinder.

Just talked to 2 guys have the 470 they love it. But they are real old salts.

Looks to be they spent to mush time at sea.

Ha.

Re: 87 sea ray seville Overheating

well after an hour of waiting for this file to load, there must be another file somewhere. can anyone tell me where i can find a manual to work on this motor(165 mercruiser) to change water pump, thermostat, etc

Ayuh,....

It's a rather LARGE file,.... Large files take Time to download....

Start downloading it,+ let it run...
Then save it to your documents, so it won't take so long next time...
Or,...
Some of the guys I believe have been right-clicking the link,+ saving it directly to documents...
I've heard it's quicker, but haven't tried it...

You could save it to a pen drive. Stick drive one that you plug into the puter.

No napa up there? They carry marine t-stats. Auto zone might have one, take it with you let them match it up.

Circulation pump has to have brass vanes. Those in my opinion can't be fixed.

Bring that also with you but that will have to be ordered.

You took off the pump?

If yes no vanes left, or leaking why does it have to be replaced?

Maybe i get jumped on here for this one, take that flapper and send it to the bottom of the ocean you don't need it. They are noisy if it's intact, and not breaking up leave it alone.

1. Do i need to replace the engine circulating pump? or can it be repaired? it is leaking coolant

2. Is it true that with a faulty exhaust flapper engine can injest water?

We`re all assuming you have the 470 in-line 4 cyl ,fresh water cooled engine .
165hp could also be the GM in-line 6 cyl.Which is it?
the 470 type does not use a typical water pump.it`s an aluminum vane type within the timing cover. If you leaking A/F out the left bleed hole, the seal is worn and most likely grooved the cam.Easy to repair with a "Speedi-Sleeve" product.
for overheating you have the usuall suspects: riser, impeller, heat exchanger, thermostat,.inlet hose, jammed flappers.

There's a way to fix them.... it was just mentioned before....were are you getting your information from, or are you just here to 470 bash?

Speedi sleeve the wear groove in the cam and it will be better than new. its been covered many times on the breezeworks.net fourm Its a little bit of a pain but it can be done

And don't take out the flapper in the exhaust mercrusier wouldn't of put them in if it wasn't needed.
