The brushes on my tilt/trim motor appear to be causing intermittent problems. Has anyone replaced the brushes or is buying a replacement motor the best way to proceed? Thanks.

depends on how handy you are and what all is wrong inside the T&T motor

I'm pretty handy, but the boat spent most of it's life in salt water, so I was unable to separate the top (where the brushes reside) from the body (where the magnets are) with gentle tapping. I didn't want to get too aggressive for fear of breaking the magnets.

If you cannot take it apart then it seems you will need a new complete motor.
I had one on my C40 that was binding up, when I took it apart one of the magnets had come unglued .
I glued it back with some silicone high temp gasket maker and it worked fine until the outer case finally rusted through and I replaced with an aftermarket motor
