I pulled the carbs apart yesterday and found a sliver of material under the float valve assembly. I had noticed that the float was not level when the body when inverted. I told the local marine supply (several in my area...just call me lucky) and he said that the non-working vro pump diaphram was detereating (sp) with no kit availible, replacement with a pre-mix pump would be about $400 ouch....So I if just use an aftermarket electric pump that is coast guard approved, and follow their requirments for installation, I just have to figure out something for the pressure switch. My obstical is that when I bought this engine the vro system had been disconnected and removed and so I just have the connecter that comes from the vro pump. I have a perfectly fuctional vaccumm system that is going to the existing pump, any chance that there is an electric marine fuel pump that has a vaccumm saftey cut-off. After reading several posts here I use star tron in my fuel at each 12 gal. refuel to help counter the nice fuel that we are offered these days

Re: 87'Evinrude 110

Personally I never used a electric fuel pump but have read articles here and elsewhere strongly recommending NOT to use one for various reasons. I expect those reasons to show up here shortly.

That engine can easily be converted from a VRO pump model to the regular small fuel pump that other V4 models incorporate which will eliminate head scratching, trying to figure out a pressure system etc for an electric pump..... and this small regular fuel pump keeps the safety level of the engine where it belongs.

Others that have went this route will be along shortly no doubt with part numbers etc.

Chena.... Via the above hyperlink supplied by cubist, work your way into the fuel pump section of the 1987 88hp model. This will show you the regular fuel pump setup, part numbers etc, everything you need should be listed here and may be available on this site.

Re: 87'Evinrude 110

Had the boat out Sat. at the local bass lake and it ran beautiful. No cutting out, good mid and high rpm. I've really put a lot of time in this boat trying to get it fish ready, dependable, and safe. So much information is in this site, I really feel like I get a free day at school with each visit to this forum. I hope that those of you that have the experience and education in the field of boating know how much you are appreciated for being a part in this forum. I have't really taken any pictures of our boat since we bought it so I can't show you what we started with compared to what we have now but its been a 2 month process, ok, I took a lot of breaks, but still a lot of work. Going to the snake river today and try some catfishing. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks Joe for the info on the web site for the fuel pump, but am wondering why the 88hp fuel pump. Is this a pump that has several applications including the 110 hp?

Re: 87'Evinrude 110

It's just that the 110hp is set up for the VRO pump and the 88hp is not. The crankcase (block) is basically the same as is the majority of the powerhead components. So....... you could convert the 88hp to a VRO by reversing the procedure..... or converting the 110hp VRO setup to the regular fuel pump setup as explained earlier above.

Now, to answer your question (grin).... Yep, that 88hp pump setup would work on any of the V4 models.
