Re: 88 150vro - flat fuel ball - idle miss - long post

I got my wish, I was out over the weekend.

BUT with no luck. From the moment I got to the dock.

Launched the boat tied off parked the truck. and my keys were gone, wait , the WHOLE ignition was gone. Completly busted. After some coaxing i wasnt going to let that stop me, i used ye-ol-uni-key (flat driver) and off i went.

made it about 1 mile and flat ball. again......

hooked up the second tank. and ran perfect.

The problem lies in my tank. So I went home frustrated tore my floor up (freshly painted) and accessed the tank, pulled off my port and got the flash light out. as expected i found 5 lbs of SAND regualar beech sand in th etank. 5 lbs may be a over estimate but there was alot of it. i had this tank out befor and checked it and it was fine. So im 100% voting sabotage some ones out to get me. And now I have 20 gallons of un usable fuel to turn in to the county for disposal :(

So over the weekend i worked on: empty tank now - but clean - freshly rebuilt carbs then re cleaned - new lines - new ball

And now i have to pick up an ignition. *sigh* when does it end.

OH and my hydraulics t/t wire grounded up on me and long sotry short, bent my skag on the l/u.

t/t still works after the wire reapir i made.

Frank, don't sweat the skeg ... it's only there to protect the prop. Won't cause any problems left bent.

Glad you finally got around to trying a second tank!!!

Yea finally got me head out of my butt and did the right thing rather than fighting the same issue. Still frustrating that some one would do that to my boat. And I dont think they sell a locking cap for it. Or do they? Ill have to look into that in a moment.

But now i found my problem and hopefully its resolved id really hate to carry 6 gallon tanks around I really would rather use my onboard setup.

Heading back out later this week with the inboard tank hooked up.

THANK YOU! to each and every one that gave some advice. You guys are great. A thank you isnt alot but I hope it makes you feel like you did the right thing. if any of yous come around my area let me know ill gladly buy you a beer or soda which ever you prefer :)

No locking caps I know of, maybe .357 Magnum. Glad you're going again.

Again every one thank you.

So I had a good trip out this week. Ran almost perfectly.

Well cant even say that, it ran great the idle problem is still evident.

Now i know my crabs are fresh, fuel is fresh, and new plugs.

my local guy cannot check power packs. but we seem to think its just running lean he said i should go to the next size with my jets. i reallly really really dont want to pull my carbs off again.

any other suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance.

Frank, I learned today Perko makes locking gas caps and West Marine sells them.

funny youd say that jim. i was just coming back to post that westmarine has them and i picked one up and installed it sunday. kinda a flimsy setup but no matter what you could do it wont stop a ambitious person. just maybe discourage it from happening again
