I used my 88 rinker 206 captiva with 5.7 yesterday. stopped at the beach for 4 hours and went to leave and engine would not start. its getting gas but doesnt seem to have spark all of the sudden. Went to marina today and tried starting it and same problem today. Any suggestions would be great.

What Bond-0 said. Also, the pickup coil in the distributor could be suspect. (merc dealer here has been going thru quite a few from that vintage lately). Of course clean and tight wiring connections as well. There is a tb4 troubleshooting flowchart here on the forums if you search. In a couple of minutes you will know what the issue is.

doesnt seem to have spark all of the sudden.

Did you actually check to see if you have spark, or just assuming it doesn't since it has gas?

yes, check to make sure it actually doesnt have spark, if it doesnt check all your connections are clean and tight, sometimes the wires on your coil can go bad and cause a bad connection.

I have had it 4 years and it has not been serviced in that time. No it dont have spark. Pulled cap looks fine and all connections are good. Maybe time for a tuneup.
