88' 80HP merc O/B borgs on take off

I have a 88 oil injected 80 H.P. that bogs down on take off. If I push the key in for the fuel enricher it doesn,t do it. so I am leaning towards starving on fuel. any ideas? I have installed new plugs and it has a small 17" prop on a 15' boat. before i have run a 21" prop with no prblems. (the 17 " is for water skiing) It runs fine if i give it throttle slowly

Your idle jets need to be opened up a bit. They're at the top of the carb. Open each one another 1/8 turn (unscrew). It might take as much as 1/4 turn. Could need more, but I doubt it. Hard to say without running it myself, though.<br /><br />If it accelerated okay with the 21, but won't with the 17, then the adjustment is close. Also because if you advance the throttle slowly, it will go. The reason it became a problem with the smaller prop is that the motor will accelerate quicker with it. The carb isn't quite keeping up with the demand. Fattening up the idle mixture a tad should fix that.
