Hi guys. I watched the video on how to linc n sync that one of the pros posted on youtube. Thank you!! The problem is, my in water idle is still low and will occasionally stall while rolling into reverse from neutral. It runs perfect in FWD and neutral. I have the line matched up with assentric black roller. Idle srews on carbs are 1 turn out ( based on bucking). So I thought I needed to adjust the black straight slot on the timimg tower. It made it worse. Should I back it out? I did one full turn in thinking that would advance or highten the idle but it actually made it lower. Any ideas? It looks like tightening would raise it looking at the linkage.

Re: 88' 85 HP in water idle

You did not listen closely or did not understand the tutorial. The scribed line on the cam is there simply to set a BASELINE. As I said, when idle is adjusted using the idle stop screw, the scribed line(s) will usually be below the roller.

Now: by moving the timing adjustment screw one turn in, you have retarded the timing. Set it back to where it was and check the timing advance to be certain it is at 30 degrees at WOT. Then, raise the idle using the idle stop screw which I specifically pointed out on both engines.

You can not set the idle speed by ear: You really must use a tachometer. Idle speed should be about 700-750 RPM in the water in forward gear. When going from neutral to forward there should be a solid "thunk" but it should not be harsh or excessive.
