yeah, thanks R. -- a design improvement IMO, but not the same access as earlier models.

Think I might still pull off the head and try to explore water passages -- have a special little tool I used for scraping salt deposits (40 yr. old paring knife with a curved blade). Might be worth a try.

This afternoon I pulled the lu and head and I alternately flushed every water passage with 100 psi of air and then 60psi of water. I did this about 5 times in all directions and wallah the blockage must have cleared. I put it all back together and cranked it up to find I now have a good strong tell tale that is coolish and the discharge water at the prop is nice and warm. I ran it for about 2 hours at a medium idle and it never overheated. Thanks to everyone who commented and offered advice. Racerone was right on about there being a blockage and I did as oldboat1 suggested and used water plus air to flush. You guys are great for helping guys like me keep an old motor out of the expensive shop. I will put it in my run barrel tomorrow and let it run a few more hours just to get water moving thru it and make sure the fix is final. Thanks Again!
