Re: 88 Alura

Not sure what size Alura you have, but it looks like the 35..which is 13000lbs dry. Honestly, a sbc is pushing it a bit, but the problem you may find is GM stopped producing the 8.1 block, so whats around is whats left. Im not sure if the 6.0 comes in RH/LH configurations, but you can check on that, it produces abouth the same hp as the 8.1, but much less torque, and less efficiency. Most likely they are pricing the 5.7 because of limited choice, and you had 360's in there.

are you specing the 5.7 classic carb? or the captains choice mpi? or something between...

Yep it's the 35. I guess the 6.0s would make more sense as they are even a bit bigger than the old engines.

Doesn't the Alura have a semi-displacement hull? It ain't a ski boat. 'More power' won't buy you much, besides the extra expenditure for the engines. You also noted that it has new Crusaders in it, so I can't imagine why you'd be looking to swap them out.

What am missing?

Yes I've read it's not good at 20 knots, but I'd like to be able to get up around that if needed. It has Chrysler 360s right now, I meant the engines were getting are new crusaders
