Question - I got a 1988 Bayliner 18' BR. I am replacing the stereo and speakers. The stock location for 2 of the speakers is under the rear seats. Check. However there are not 2 other speakers that I can see so I need to install them somewhere. Any ides?

Secondly in the bow there are boxes built up for the seats. I imagine they are hollow. Would there be a problem with installing speaks into this box near the floor? Is there something I should be concerned about in opening this area to the air?

Thanks again!

If you remove your front seat cusshions you can look down inside and see the fibreglass for all it glory. ( I used to store extra PFDs in those storage areas.) I mounted a pair of speakers up there so that riders in the bow could hear the tunes while underway.

If you decide to install them there, you will want to strengthen the fibreglass because its not very thick and when you cut into it for the speakers openings you will weaken the integrity of the fiberglass. What I did, after I cut the openings for the speakers in the base I cut a piece of plywood to use as a backing plate (approx 12" x 12") and I fiberglassed that into the seat base to give it added strength. After it set and dried, I mounted the speakers and it was as strong (probably stronger) as the undisturbed seat base.

It's actually a lot easier than it sounds, don't be intimidated. Good luck!

P.S. Love your reference to the RYC!
