My boat has been at the shop for the past few weeks becuase i had starting issues and bogging under load. Mechanic cleaned and readjusted carbs and timing and got her starting great and going up to 5200 rpms at WOT (which is great since i never got it over 4500 before) However, he had it out the other day and at WOT said that it just stalled out. He said he checked everything out and all is good - compression 130 on all, spark good on all, fuel pump just rebuilt. He is thinking that the small screen in the fuel recirculation system may be clogged. So he ordered a new gasket and we are now waiting for the parts and i'm out another weekend without the boat:( Has anyone had this happen?
Thanks

Assuming the carb rebuild was done correctly, talk is, the check valves in the pump may be sticky.

Yes, i thought the same and mentioned this to him, but he said he checked the check valves and they were fine.

Don't know about screens or gaskets needed for the recirc. system. Do you? From what I've gleaned here, bogging under load means a lean running condition. A clogged recirc. system causes rich running. Your symptoms and advice don't mesh. Just a newbee with learned experiences expressing them.

To the right of and next to the fuel pump there is an assembly that has reeds and a small round screen behind the reeds - i think its held on by 4 slotted screws. Don't think anyoone sells the screen though- but the gasket is obtainable from crowleys or boats.net. Supposedly (this is what the mechanci said) he has seen these clog up and cause this condition. I don't know either, just figured i'd see if anyone else has had this assembly apart.

Further-- Boats.net DOES sell the screens, I just got a set from them for my 85 HP Force.

Be prepared for looooooong ship times, tho.
