Hi I just installed a fuel filter water separator the big canister type mounted to the innerliner. I can't seem to get it primed. 88 johnson 175, Is there some trick to this or is this thing not going to work? It's from a Yamaha motor but looks just like any other one one would buy from a store. I tried hooking up a drill pump but still could not get the fuel out of the floor tank?/? hellppppppppppp
Thanks. If you reply could you put your email address in. Thanks. Tim

shelbydriver,

Do you have it plumbed in the right direction?

Your primer bulb should have an arrow designating direction of fuel flow. The seperator may be the same way.

The other possibilities are an air leak.

you might have 1 of the older seperator heads, if thats the case than there is a 5th hole besides the 4 that have the arrows look at the backside that mounts against the transom or your mounting area, and always use a thread sealer, make sure the gasket on the filter is installed properly ,makes sure there is not a gasket already stuck to the head attach a new hose to the tank with the primer bulb make sure gas flow is good,

As Djohns said, make sure you have the arrows going in the right direction, Also, many of those filters have 4 ports on them and can be a bit confusing. So make sure you have the inlet and outlets correct. If they are, try filling the filter with premix and then install it. Had the same thing happen when I put mine on, although I did'nt try the Drill thing.

thanks folks I will look at all the above. I see the filter/separator has two inlets and two outlets, one of each has a plug. There are arrows. I will look at the ball to see if the arrows are pointing the right way. I think with persistance I will overcome this problem. I primed the filter too already.
