I am not able to seperate the lower unit after taking 4 bolts and trim and two other bolts same area. it will divide about 1/2 inch however reverse? rod at front
seems to be stuck and not letting it come apart completely. what am i doing wrong. manuel said to put in reverse an d take cotter pin out at motor but i dont understand what that does.

2 Bolts on each side, 1 bolt in front of the trim tab, 1 Bolt to remove the trim tab, 1 Bolt hidden above the trim tab.​

There is also an eighth bolt in front of the trim tab, holding the anode in place if you plan to service the anode. The shift rod running to the gearcase must be free to slide out. Check the gearcase, midsection, and cylinder and crankshaft diagrams for your motor here:

BTW, I don't find the cotter pin that you mentioned. I would have expected a bolt to free the shift rod.​

YOu have the lower unit off but you need to remove the shift rod.

If it is similar to my 89 110HP you need to remove the Codder pin by the throttle cables and push in. This will release the Shift rod and allow you to drop the Lower Unit. Make sure you dont twist the rod when you remove and place it back in the same gear as you took it out

johnson1989, thanks for ineo on pushing in to release the book does not mention this. I will look in to it in the next couple of days as time allows:
