Im in the Bay Area California. I think the poly was like $100 for 5 gal and a roll of 1oz CSM was $270 a roll Im going to have to get a quote on 1.5oz. I also dont have a quote on how much Biax is. I dont think i would need a whole roll tho what do you think?

when i was shopping around locally, i compared most local prices to uscomposite's prices.
ended up doing one stop shopping with uscomposites

Hey guys i have everything cleared out and am starting the grind. I am at the white paint like stuff that is painted inside the hull. Anyone have a good way of getting this off to get down to the clean glass?

This is the white "stuff" im talking about

is it paint or gel coat? thats spooky looks just like my hull. crappy glass and all. mines a bow rider jim

Soak a rag in acetone and lay it on the white stuff. After 10 or 15 minutes take it off. If it wrinkles the white stuff is paint if it doesn't then it's prolly gelcoat. If it's gelcoat you'll have to grind it off. If it's paint you can either sand/grind it off or use paint stripper. either way you still have to grind the old glass to get to fresh glass to apply the new.

Thanks for the advice... New question in some spots im finding the the glass itself is white. Like Under the glass is white? Is this a problem and how do i fix it if it is?

A fairly close up pix of that would help....

It may be an air pocket that was trapped during original manufacturing, they often appear hazy & white. Or as the boat worked it's way down the assembly line, some areas were sprayed w/ gelcoat, and it might be over spray from that. Then as subsequent parts & pieces were added, additional fiberglass was laid over the white gelcoat over spray......

Well in my great wisdom i washed out the hull after grininding down the old fiberglass from the stingers. It was after that that i really noticed the white spots. Ill get some pics posted tomorrow. I feel like a dummy and hope i didnt just ruin my project.

hey, if some people on here can cut their boats in half, to make them longer.....then it's hard to image that there is anything we can do to our projects to "ruin" them......it can all be fixed, repaired, welded, bolted, rivet'd, glassed over, ground out...and done all over again

As mrd said, no way man. Ruined? Not even remotely

If you have any concerns about how something looks, something you've done either deliberately (& you think possibly incorrectly) or by accident (insert pix of the extra un-necessary hole put into a hull by the owner using a grinder, here) <<-- Happens, more often then we'd like to admit

The more pix you can post the better, use photobucket, that way when you cut & paste the img code that looks like this:

Also as i am grinding down what is left of the glass for my stingers that is what im finding. is that grinded enough and will i need to use glass to reseal there?

Its been a while however i am still working... slowly... the inside is grinded down and the transom is being constructed. Her are some photos.

There is so much pb used in the construction of this boat look where the old base mount was and look at that lip... that lip is all pb

get rid of that brass plug in the bottom fill the area with PB and re-drill the hole also pack all the voids (gaps) around the bottom and sides with the PB

Thanks for the info on the brass fitting. That is a dry fit of the transom... I will indeed fill all the voids with pb. So my question now is if you look at where the engine would sit you see a bunch of old pb bondo and what ever else they used... Do i need to grind that all the way down to the hull? Will glass stick to that... i dont mind grinding it i just cause it shows me exactly where my motor mounts go. Any info you guys got would be great...

There is a bunch of this all the way to to bow... Looking at other build it looks like everything should be grinded down to the hull... let me know

yes you want to put fiberglass on glass NOT glass on paint, wood chips, gel coat, dust, spilled resin or any thing else. wipe the area down with acetone before applying fiberglass to remove oils.
