The divider plate gaskets are 18-2502, water jacket covers on head are 18-2808 and head gaskets are 18-6862 which all can be ordered here on iboats.

Re: 88 mercury black max 200 cylinder wall help

Common causes for increasing temps/over heating when running at 2500 and above;

Incorrect ignition timing, Verify timing control lever is moving throughout its range, not sticking and causing retarded timing at large throttle opening. Also verify correct WOT timing.

Leaking head gasket(s) mentioned in earlier post.

Powerhead base gasket leaking cooling water into the exhaust, bypassing the cooling system.

Re: 88 mercury black max 200 cylinder wall help

Hey guys I really need your help.got the heads and everything else together. Started the motor today and it runs perfect but water is leaking from the head gaskets I followed the torque specs of 35ft in proper sequence. St first there was a pin hole of water streaming out. I went a round and snugged all the bolts again and it got beter but there still seeping all over. What is going on here? Should I keep tightening and se if it stops I'm already beyond the 35 ft lbs. Thanks

They are silicon impregnated gaskets, they must go thru a heat cycle and be retorqued when hot/warm...

Should run for a few hours before you retorque head bolts.You are using new gaskets and you have cleaned up mating surfaces?
