88 or 89 johnson 150 v6 boggs down

My 150 johnson will ideal fine in my yard with ears or in a 100 gal tub. In the 100 gal tub i can put it in gear an it will blow the water out of the tub. But when i put it in the lake it ideals fine and i go to give it gas and it just boggs down pull up to n and it ideals fine. Put a fule filter on it and pulled the carbs and cleaned
them. This did not help. I wonder is my boat afraid of the water.

This seems similar to my problem. Although I haven't tried cleaning the carbs yet. Which is the next thing I am going to do.

Do compression test first.
What is the idle rpm on the hose?

Do a spark test , theres a dead cylinder.
If it sparks strong rebuild carbs with new kits.

Read the FAQ files for directions,
you cannot do a spark test by using the sparkplugs,

Running the engine in a tank is not same as running it in the lake. The prop is buried 2 feet under water in the lake and it needs all 6 cyls to run right. Agree on checking for spark on all 6 plugwires. Best to check for spark when the boat is floating, under load-in gear.
