1996 88 special runs great good ,even compression. new wirinf, battery and cables. When I go to start, I turn the key to start and engine will turn over and fire and ide. no big deal, if I advance the throttle and try it starts up. the problem happens when at times the starter will engage and turn motor over a couple of times then dis engage and then nothing. Turn key back to start and most times motor starts on second or third time with throttle advanced(in nuetral). I think the starter may be getting tired. I know with plugs out(when doing the timing or compression test) the started will turn motor over countinuosly if you let it. With plugs in it disingages after a couple of revs. never left me stranded and might be normal just seems kinda odd.

the starter bendix disengages the flywheel, when the flywheel turns faster than the starter. your engine is trying to start, but, is just on the edge.

100% normal.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I though maybe I was alright. It has never let me down. or turned slowly.
