As I am starting on my journey to save cash for an older 14 ft. to 16 ft. aluminum utility-v bottom boat(preferrably Lund since I am a Lund guy),
I am wanting an Evinrude or Johnson motor for power in the 1988 to 1990
model year range(same as the boat; hopefully an S-16 Lund or the WC-16
Lund of the same model year range). The S-16 Lund would accept motors up to 40 hp and the WC would accept motors up to a 25HP motor. Now for the
big question;how reliable have these motors been overall? Can a 40 horse
motor be had with manual rope start only or do they have only electric start?
Same question goes for the 25 HP motor. I ask that because I want a manual
rope start motor mainly because I want to save weight where I can and not have to mess with a battery if I can help it. As for a 14 ft. boat,...my choice is Lund's A-14,or Sea Nymph's 14K that take motors up to 15 HP. How have
those motors been as far as reliability is concerned? Sea Nymph's 14R would
be an acceptable boat if I am unable to find any one of the Lunds I would prefer to have,...as long as it has OMC power! How have your experiences been with these motors in the '88 to '90 model year and 15 to 40 HP range
been like? That is what I want to know.
